From Scared to Loved: BDDC Success Stories That Will Warm Your Heart

At Big Dogs Don't Cry, we believe every dog deserves a second chance. Since our founding, we have rescued over 414 animals and found forever homes for 378 of them. Behind each of those numbers is a story — a dog who was scared, alone, or facing euthanasia, and a family who opened their heart and home. Today, we want to share a few of those stories with you.

Bailey's Story: From the Shelter to the Couch

Bailey, an Australian Shepherd and Border Collie mix, arrived at our rescue frightened and unsure of the world around her. Her foster family worked with her patiently every single day — short walks, gentle voices, and lots of treats. Within three weeks, the dog who wouldn't leave her crate was chasing tennis balls in the backyard. Bailey found her forever home with a family in Crown Point and is reportedly now the self-appointed couch supervisor of the household.

Bonita's Journey: A Pit Bull Who Proved Everyone Wrong

Bonita, an American Pit Bull Terrier, came to us with a history that made many potential adopters hesitant. But her foster mom saw something special — a dog who wanted nothing more than to be loved. After two months of dedicated fostering, socialization, and training, Bonita charmed every person she met. She was adopted by a couple in Valparaiso who say she now sleeps between them every night and has never met a stranger.

Lorax's Transformation: The Dog Who Found His People

Lorax, a Standard Schnauzer and Poodle mix, had been passed over at multiple shelters before landing with BDDC. His quirky personality — equal parts dramatic and cuddly — finally clicked with a family who wanted exactly that energy. They adopted him within a week of meeting him and now post monthly updates of his adventures on social media. He's become something of a local celebrity.

You Could Be the Next Chapter
